Update July 28, 2012: The restaurant is at the corner of Katy Freeway (I-10) and Silber.  So regardless which direction you’re coming from, take the Silber Exit.  The restaurant is right next door to the Grand Marq-E theater.  You will be able to park really close to the building too.

Feel free to bring your cameras!  And my son Alex has volunteered to be photographer for the evening, so don’t be surprised if he pops up and says “Say Cheese!”  🙂

Please join me for a dinner to celebrate the continuing success of HoustonPhotowalks!

In July of 2009, 50 people signed up to Photowalk downtown Houston in the middle of the night.  When a massive lightning storm rolled in and ran off about 20 people, the folks that braved the storm and photowalked in the rain helped me start a little meetup group called HoustonPhotowalks.

3 years later, 136 events later, THOUSANDS of images later, we are still going strong with a membership of 1,333 amazing Houston photographers.

We committed to 3 principles throughout every event:

Focus on events that are Safe, Fun and Social. Focus on Honoring the Photowalkers who came before us.  Without the need for rugged, light, and convenient equipment for photo safaris, the evolution of our equipment wouldn’t be where it is today. Focus on education.  Educate ourselves and each other about photography, and educate the public that photographers are good people enjoying a hobby, not criminals, creeps or terrorists. And a common mantra for every event, from the very first to the last, is doing things that are “Interesting and Unusual”.

Its my belief that we have really NAILED it.  Our 3 principles can be seen in almost every event, and even when we do “normal” photowalks, we find ways to throw in surprises to make them unique to our group.

Please join me on July 29th for a dinner social event at Cafe Adobe near the Grand Marq*E on I-10 (Katy freeway).  We will look back on where we have been, the fun we’ve had, and kick off year 4 by eating way too much Mexican food.
