History
The George R. Brown Convention Center is a relatively new addition to Houston's downtown landscape, having opened its doors in 1987. The center was named after the prominent Houston entrepreneur and philanthropist, George Rufus Brown, who was a co-founder of the Brown & Root engineering and construction company. The convention center was designed by the well-known architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and was one of the largest convention centers in the United States at the time of its construction. It has since undergone several renovations and expansions, including the addition of Discovery Green park in 2008, which has become a popular spot for outdoor photography.
For those looking to photograph the George R. Brown Convention Center, there are several interesting hints and tips worth knowing. One unique feature of the center is the large metal sculpture of a cowboy and his horse located in front of the building. The statue, entitled "The Guardian," was created by artist Luis Jiménez and is a popular subject for photographers. Another must-see is the "Houston Is Inspired" mural located just a few blocks away on Leeland Street. The colorful mural features a variety of Houston landmarks and cultural icons and provides a colorful backdrop for photos. Additionally, for those looking to capture panoramic shots of the city skyline, the rooftop terrace of the convention center offers a stunning view of downtown Houston. Overall, the George R.
