Photowalk: Bluebonnets near Brenham

April 9, 2017 @ 7:00 am

Venue

From the Ground Up
6507 Hwy 290 E
Brenham, TX 77833
+ Google Map

Let’s take a jaunt through the Brenham area to shoot wildflowers! There’s some gorgeous displays going on right now in the Brenham area, and they won’t last much longer!

First, we’ll meet at From the Ground Up, a great little coffee shop on 290 between Brenham and Chappell Hill. From there, we’ll consolidate vehicles and follow the back roads, taking our time to stop and smell and/or shoot the bluebonnets. We’ll start with a huge field of bluebonnets, and then move on to quiet country roads.

Our next to last stop will be at the Antique Rose Garden in Independence, where there’s always something in bloom, with quite extensive gardens.

We’ll end our day with a picnic lunch at Old Baylor Park, and then return to From the Ground Up to retrieve vehicles.

Please bring the following:

• Bug spray

• your camera equipment

• a full tank of gas

• your car cell phone charger!!!

• cash for breakfast (makes check out that much faster)

• your picnic lunch

• a picnic blanket (there’s only two tables at the picnic site)

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF ALL LANDOWNERS – IF THERE IS A FENCE, DO NOT CROSS IT. DO NOT HARASS ANY ANIMALS. BE A POLITE DRIVER. AND WHEN STOPPING FOR PHOTOS, PULL AS FAR IN TO THE SIDE AS POSSIBLE.

Most of the roads that we’ll be shooting on are off the beaten path, and we won’t have to worry about very much traffic. In fact, I plan to give you so many opportunities on the back roads that you won’t need to stop on the highways.

The map will be finalized and distributed before the event.

UPDATE:

As of right now, our event is still going on as planned. Might want to pack your rain boots, though! Also, if you have a rain-cover for your camera, that would be a good idea as well. Shooting in the rain is a lot of fun, with great results! Depending on the weather, we might change our picnic lunch after our walk to a restaurant in Brenham (I’ll update on that as we get closer). If you’re desperate to get sunny wildflower pictures, please feel free to head on over to the Brenham area Saturday – the weather is supposed to be gorgeous most of the day. Be aware that the big antique fairs at Roundtop are going on right now, which is why I picked routes that are north of Brenham. All of the roads further south and west will be jammed. If you decide that you don’t wish to shoot in potential rain, please update your RSVP ASAP! There are lots of folks who will take your place!

UPDATE #2:

Well folks, unfortunately, the weather is not on our side. As of this posting, they are predicting very strong storms with possible tornadoes here in Brenham for most of the day, and thunderstorms before and after. I know it is disappointing. And I can’t guarantee that there will be bluebonnets still blooming by next weekend. However, I can guarantee some beautiful wildflowers, country roads and vistas, and probably sunny skies next Sunday morning. I hope you can all join us then, but if you need to change your RSVP, we understand. I will be driving the route again later in the week to verify the best locations again.

Please still feel free to post your bluebonnet photos to Facebook and this page.
