Photosafari: Day 1 – The Urban Backyard Water Feature Tour (2 day Houston Event)

Update 5/29/10: We will start at 10am Saturday morning at 1102 Bartlett St Houston, TX, 77006. A lunch is scheduled between the fourth and fifth garden, at ‘la Madeleine’ (770 W Sam Houston Pkwy N, Ste 100). The restaurant is located at the feeder road of Beltway 8 and Kimberley Ln.
Update 5/16/2010: Gerard Gaal will be leading the Saturday leg for this 2 day event! So if you want to go Saturday, be sure and RSVP here! Gerard will be posting a starting location. THANKS Gerard!!

Area homeowners with amazing backyards are opening their homes (well, backyards) for visitors. These homes have amazing water features, show- and award-quality Koi fish, and beautiful exotic plants and flowers. We’ll meet at the first home and follow a map together to each home. We’ll have maps to homes that will be open to visit on Saturday and/or Sunday.
The event proceeds benefit the Lone Star Koi Club and Houston Pond Society. They charge $10 per person for this event. Tickets are good for both days of this self-guided tour. Tickets can be purchased at any of the ponds on the day that pond is open. For more details about the event, you can read the latest updates on the Koi Club web site:

For the Saturday route, we will start near the Museum District and work our way west, to avoid traffic. We will make a stop for lunch. I will post a suitable location later this week. On Saturday, 11 gardens are open to the public, however the 7 hour time window, 4 hours of driving and a lunch, will only leave us with drive by shooting. To have a little more time to shoot better photos, we will not visit the gardens to the north of Houston.
