Meet at Newman's Bakery

Yorktown Memorial Hospital in Texas was built in 1951 and was run by the Felician Sisters of The Roman Catholic Church. It closed its doors as a hospital in 1986, when it became a drug rehab facility until its total decommission in 1992. Today the building is private property, but is available for tours.

It is reported to be highly active and some say it is very haunted.

The property is available for daytime tours for about 2 hours.  That includes a historical guided tour, and then some roaming around.  It is a VERY interesting location for photographing what happens to buildings when people stop maintaining them.

Along the way to the hospital from Houston, also stop by the Medical and Pharmacy Museum in Cuero Texas.  Museum hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 to 3pm.  The address is 114 E. Main, Cuero Texas.  ( https://pharmacyandmedicalmuseum.org/ ) Both the Medial Museum and the Abandoned Yorktown Hospital are really friendly folks.

HoustonPhotowalks visited the Museum and the Hospital in 2019.  In fact, we were in the Hospital overnight in the pitch black (there’s no electricity or lighting).  So it was a fun light-paining experience for everyone!
